Applications must be received by the ACG Certification Department at least 21 days in advance of testing at an ACG event.***

All CxA Applications must now include supplemental documentation to be submitted as a prerequisite:

– All supporting documentation of any degree, diploma, or if applicable, P.E. or Architect License. An application will not be considered complete until all supporting documentation is submitted.

–3rd party verification for every commissioning project submitted. To view and dowload the 3rd party verification form: click here. This form should be used by the CxA Candidate to request verification of work performed on the listed commissioning project.

About the New CxA Examination

The updated CxA exam consists of multiple-choice questions designed to test a person’s ability to understand and apply commissioning concepts, and analyze the types of issues CxAs typically face on the job.  This exam is based on the occupational guidelines for Building Commissioning Professionals that was developed by the U.S. Department of Energy. For more detailed information, please review the Candidate Handbook linked above.

As of 03/10/2025, the ACG-produced study reference for the CxA exam has been updated to the ACG Building Systems Commissioning Guideline, Part 1: Understanding the Comprehensive Building Systems Commissioning Process. The publication is available to all current ACG members complimentary in the member portal. If you work for a member company, please contact your company’s point of contact for a copy of the guideline for your use while studying for the exam. Following is a list of the references that were used during development of the CxA certification examination.  This list is made available to individuals who are pursuing CxA certification and want to enhance their ability to apply commissioning concepts.  This is not intended as a comprehensive list of all materials available to CxA candidates.

 

CxA Certification Data

For the 12-month period ending 12/31/2024, 155 candidates were approved to take the CxA exam. Of those, 99 passed the CxA certification exam, for a passing rate of 64%. As of January 1, 2025, there were 1,232 active CxAs.
