Request for Qualifications and Proposals

One of the most important commissioning decisions a building owner can make is selecting the commissioning provider. The provider should be certified by the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG), and have the requisite qualifications for the project that is being commissioned.

In the Request for Qualifications (RFQ), a building owner should ask for details concerning previous, relevant commissioning experience. The RFQ will help to narrow the list of commissioning providers that receive a Request for Proposal (RFP). Owners may select a commissioning provider based on the qualifications and rate schedules submitted in response to the RFQ.

The RFP should include as much information about the project as possible, with the following information at minimum:

  • Project name and location
  • Approximate square footage, use and occupancy of building
  • Types of systems to be commissioned
  • Special considerations
  • Specifications and drawings

Regardless of which method is used to select a commissioning provider, the selection process warrants a thorough interview and verification of past performance.
