CxAs Cited for Mandated Tune-Ups: City of Madison

ACGNews

The AABC Commissioning Group’s CxA Certification (CxA) has been cited as a pre-qualifier to perform mandated building tune-ups by the City of Madison’s new Building Energy Savings Program.

On March 7th, the City of Madison’s Common Council unanimously adopted the Building Energy Savings Program to reduce carbon pollution from large commercial buildings. The ordinance goes into effect January 1st, 202, with the first benchmarking deadline in June 2024 and the first tune-up deadline in October 2025.

FacilitiesNet reported that the new ordinance requires owners of commercial buildings 25,000 square feet or larger to annually benchmark energy use by using the Energy Star Portfolio Manager. Owners of commercial buildings 50,000 square feet or larger must conduct tune-ups every four years. The tune-ups include checking HVAC and lighting systems to ensure that energy waste isn’t taking place and that maintenance or repairs can be recognized to improve the systems.

CxAs are cited as qualified tune-up specialists, with the tune-up specialist finalizing and signing the tune-up report.
